The short version

knot has no user account, advertising, analytics, tracking or cloud transcription. Your notes, recordings, transcripts, vaults and AI conversations stay on your iPhone unless you deliberately export or share them. Local AI processing does not send your content to model providers.

Information stored on your iPhone

knot stores locally:

  • typed notes, imported text, recordings, transcripts and recording markers;
  • summaries, knowledge pages, graph data, actions, decisions and chats;
  • downloaded speech and language models;
  • settings, model status, job progress and local diagnostic information.

Markdown vaults and recordings are visible in On My iPhone/knot. Other working data and downloaded models are in the app’s private container. These files use iOS file protection and your device passcode. Readable Markdown vaults are not separately encrypted by knot.

Permissions and Apple services

knot accesses the microphone only after you grant permission and start a recording, and shows an active recording interface. You are responsible for obtaining any consent required before recording other people.

Optional Privacy Shield asks iOS to authenticate you with Face ID or the device passcode. knot receives only the authentication result and never receives biometric data. Calendar events and Reminders are added only after your review and confirmation, then handled under your Apple and iCloud settings. Completion notifications are generated locally; knot does not use remote push notifications.

Model downloads and network use

Model downloads are knot’s only app network operation. When you choose to install a model, knot connects directly to Hugging Face to request the selected, pinned model files. Your notes, recordings, transcripts, vaults, prompts and AI outputs are not included in those requests.

Hugging Face and its infrastructure providers may receive ordinary network information such as your IP address, request time, requested file and HTTP headers. Their handling of that information is described in the Hugging Face Privacy Policy. After installation, transcription and language-model processing run on your iPhone without an internet connection.

Diagnostics and support

knot does not automatically send crash reports, usage analytics or diagnostics to HelixWorks. You may create a local diagnostic export and choose whether and where to share it. It contains operational information such as model status, job timings, OS version and thermal state, but excludes note, recording, transcript, vault and chat content.

If you email us, we receive your email address, message and any attachments you choose to include. We use this information to answer your request, troubleshoot the issue, secure the service and, where necessary, establish or defend legal claims.

This website

This site has no advertising, analytics, tracking scripts, account or contact form, and does not set non-essential cookies. Its hosting and network-security providers may process IP addresses and basic request information needed to deliver and protect the site. Selecting the email link opens your own email service.

Legal bases, recipients and transfers

Where the GDPR applies, support information is processed as necessary to respond to your request or provide the service (Article 6(1)(b)), to comply with legal obligations (Article 6(1)(c)), and for our legitimate interests in support, security and legal-claim management (Article 6(1)(f)).

Information may be handled by service providers that support email, website hosting or security, only for those purposes and subject to appropriate contractual safeguards. Model-download requests go directly to Hugging Face, which handles its network data under its own privacy terms. Some providers may process information outside the European Economic Area using an applicable legal transfer mechanism described in their terms.

Retention, deletion and your choices

App content remains on your iPhone until you delete it. You can delete notes, recordings, vault content, downloaded models and processing history inside knot, and manage Files-visible content in the Files app. Uninstalling knot removes its private app container. Export important information first. Previously exported files, Calendar events and Reminders are not removed automatically.

Support correspondence is retained only as long as necessary to answer the request, maintain appropriate support records and meet legal or claim-related requirements. Essential website security logs are retained according to the hosting provider’s operational retention schedule. You can withdraw app permissions in iPhone Settings at any time.

Your privacy rights

Depending on the circumstances, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of personal data we hold, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. knot does not make automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Contact serge@hxwx.io to exercise a right.

You may also complain to your local data-protection authority or to Poland’s President of the Personal Data Protection Office (UODO).

Children and policy changes

knot is a general productivity tool and is not directed to children. If the app’s data practices change, this policy and the App Store privacy information will be updated before the changed behaviour is released.
